At Trafalgar Community Infant School, we have an ECO team which consists of two members from each Key Stage One class. The School Council meets with the Deputy Headteacher on a half termly basis to discuss ways to improve our ECO effectiveness at Trafalgar. ECO monitors each have their own badge and are responsible for organising their class in composting fruit, encouraging them to turn off lights and Interactive Whiteboards, making sure that taps are turned off and recycling paper. ECO monitors are also encouraged to deliver messages about ‘Switch off Fortnight’, ‘Waste week’ and ‘Walk to school week’ to the whole school during assemblies.

ECO monitors were very excited to be involved in planting Rocket seeds this summer which had been into space with Tim Peake. Red packet and blue packet seeds were planted in the same conditions and the ECO monitors counted how many seeds germinated, counted leaves, measured and charted their progress. It was very exciting to find out that the Blue seeds had been into space! Watch Tim Peake announce this himself with the toss of a coin:

There is an ECO noticeboard near Emerald and Jade class which displays posters to highlight the current ECO priorities e.g. Reduce, Re-use, Recycle.
