Intent
At Trafalgar school, it is our intention to help children be happy, confident, self-aware and safe and know how to seek help. We do this by;
- Build learners who are confident in sharing their own thoughts and opinions with others.
- Help to nurture children to be happy in themselves, confident to try new things and always show kindness towards others.
- Build learners who are aware of their own and others needs and feelings and are nurtured to build positive, respectful relationships with other people.
- Help keep children and young people safe, physically and emotionally, be healthy and prepared for life.
- To build a PSHE and RSE curriculum, which develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills.
- To prepare children to be a global citizen now and in their future roles within a global community.
Implementation
At Trafalgar, the teaching and implementation of the PSHE curriculum is based on the national curriculum. We ensure that PSHE and RSE are not only covered in a weekly lesson but also that it encompasses everything we do and is embedded in the ethos of our school. We know that for children to learn to their full potential, they need to feel happy and safe.
- PSHE and RSE is taught in every class on a weekly basis, however we understand that it is not a discrete subject and it underpins all we do, always being incorporated into day to day school life.
- Children learn to set goals and think about their aspirations, they are taught how to keep healthy, physically and mentally.
- Children learn about friendships, family relationships and how they themselves change and grow over time.

- Children learn how to keep themselves and others safe and how to recognise unsafe situations and what to do if they need help.
As a school we value children's opinions and encourage their contribution in the formation of charters which are placed in various places around the school. Through this the children are aware of their rights and responsibilities and put these into practice to create a happy, safe and fair environment. Special weekly themes, such as road safety and anti-bullying, are acknowledged through assembly themes and followed up with classroom activities.
